Owning a dog can be one of life’s most rewarding experiences, especially for a child. Considered by many to be a member of the family, a dog provides a child with a relationship that can be wonderfully enriching. Recent studies indicate that pets give children a greater sense of empathy, and help with the development of social skills. Routines like feeding teach children that other beings feel hunger, and grooming helps them understand the importance of cleanliness.
Learning their pets' behaviour patterns, such as wagging their tails when happy or growling when angry, can help children tune into social messages. It may also help children understand signals that people send out when happy or sad, making them more empathic and socially aware.
With this in mind Puppy Pre-School is a series of classes designed for puppies 8-16 weeks of age. At this stage of their development they are very socialable and open to all sorts of experiences. The classes are run over a 5 week period and provide a safe environment to meet new friends, be exposed to new situations and maybe even learn a few things along the way. Puppies learn best by positive reinforcement. They go on learning whether we are consciously training them or not. You as an owner, have an enormous influence on the development of your new puppy. All puppies must have a health check by one of our veterinarians and be fully vaccinated and wormed.
