Our Staff

The team at Coreen Ave Veterinary Clinic and Western Sydney Cat Hospital has grown over the years, allowing us to provide that extra attention for each patient. The practice enjoys treating dogs, cats, ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, mice, and rats.

The management team of Dr Nicole McMillan, Dr Lynn Mathison and Kellie Tickner have worked together for over 20 years and have enjoyed watching the practice grow in this time.

Our Veterinary Surgeons and nurses are fully trained and approachable and aim to provide you and your pet with a high standard of professional care and personal service.

Meet our Veterinary Surgeons, Nurses and Support staff below: 


Dr Nicole McMillan BVSc(Hons)
Veterinary Surgeon - Practice Owner

Dr Nicole is one of the three practice owners of Coreen Avenue Veterinary Clinic and the Western Sydney Cat Hospital.

Also an Honours graduate of The University of Sydney, Nicole was the senior partner at The Mountains Animal Hospital before joining the team at Coreen Avenue Veterinary Clinic.

She has completed a postgraduate course in Cardiology and is currently undertaking another in Animal Behaviour.

Nicole is a busy mum, balancing time between work and her two fun-loving children, Nellie and Noah.

Dr Lynn Mathison BVSc(Hons) MANZCVS (Vet. Behaviour)
Behavoiur Veterinarian - Practice Owner

Dr Lynn is one of the three practice owners of Coreen Avenue Veterinary Clinic and the Western Sydney Cat Hospital.

She graduated from The University of Sydney with First Class Honours and was the Senior Associate at Coreen Avenue Veterinary Clinic when it first opened in 1996.

Lynn has an interest in ferret medicine and surgery, and completed her Membership in Animal Behaviour in 2014. She loves spending time with her two beautiful daughters and her menagerie of furry pets, including a rescued family of guinea pigs.

Dr Mark Yostos BVSc
Veterinary Surgeon

Dr Mark graduated from The University of Sydney in 2010.

The Coreen Avenue team was able to snap him up after he spent a short time at a small animal practice following graduation.

Mark has a keen interest in internal medicine and all things surgical. On his days off he enjoys photography and travel, and is very well-known for his sense of humour!

Dr Erin Short BVSc(Hons)
Veterinary Surgeon

Dr Erin graduated from the University of Queensland with First Class Honours. She started working in mixed practice in country NSW where she treated a wide variety of animals including horses, goats and koalas as well as companion animals.

Dr Erin then made the move to Sydney to focus on her passion of companion animal practice and continued education. She loves the challenge and variety that general practice offers and has a genuine interest in preventative health care.

Dr Tarren Burns BVSc
Veterinary Surgeon

Tarren graduated from Massey University, New Zealand, in 2009. She worked in various positions, including a stint as a volunteer Veterinarian at The Nest Wellington Zoo.

Tarren moved to Western Australia in 2010 where she took up a position to work with exotic animals. The East coast of Australia was, however, calling her – she relocated to join the team at Coreen Avenue in 2012.

Tarren has a passion for rabbits and pocket pets, and in her spare time enjoys travelling with her husband.

Dr Elaine Yap BVSc BVMS
Veterinary Surgeon

Dr Elaine graduated from Murdoch University in Perth before moving to Dubbo to work in a small animal practice.

Since joining the Coreen Avenue Veterinary Clinic team she has introduced Coco Pops, Oreos and milk as a staple snack of the day.

Elaine loves spending time with her cat, Rajah, and is looking forward to travelling back to her homeland of Singapore to introduce her gorgeous daughter, Erika, to the family.

Dr Rebecca Griffin BVSc, MACVS (small animal medicine).
Veterinary Surgeon

Dr Rebecca graduated from The University of Sydney in 2004. She moved to rural Victoria, working in a mixed-animal practice in Mildura and North East Victoria for several years before moving back to Sydney in 2010.

Rebecca has undertaken further study in conservation and wildlife medicine, and completed her Membership exams in Small Animal Medicinein 2013. This means she is a member of the Australian/New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, which involves many years of extra post-graduate study.

Dr Michelle O’Korn
Veterinary Surgeon

Dr Michelle graduated from The University of Sydney in 2007 with Honours after initially completing a degree in Genetics.

Michelle enjoys spending time with her daughter as well as her two canine kids – Chester, the naughty beagle, and Molly, the spoilt dachshund.

She also loves watching movies and cooking new vegetarian-style recipes. Michelle currently works part-time after the arrival of baby Maddie.

Dr Lisa Kavanagh BVM&S
Veterinary Surgeon

Dr Lisa graduated in 2002 from Edinburgh University in Scotland.

She travelled to Australia to work for a few years, returning home to Scotland for two years and then Cheltenham for a further five years.

Luckily for us, Australia called her back and she now calls Coreen Avenue Veterinary Clinic home after joining us in 2012.

Lisa has an interest in feline medicine and is currently studying her RCVS certificate. To relax, she spends time running and enjoys time with her young family.

Practice Manager

Kellie is the newest member of the CAVC leadership team, becoming a partner in January 2014.

She began veterinary nursing at The Mountains Animal Hospital in Blaxland before transferring to Penrith to open Coreen Avenue Veterinary Clinic in 1996.

She has worked alongside Dr Lynn and Dr Nicole for over 20 years, and has played an integral role in Coreen Avenue Veterinary Practice growing from a one-vet/one nurse practice to the thriving small animal practice that it is today.

As the Practice Manager, Kellie handles all aspects of the day-to-day running of the Clinic. She is passionately involved in the Community Projects with Penrith City Council, RSPCA & Penrith Homeless Hub as well as several business networking groups.

Senior Veterinary Nurse

Louisa has been an integral part of the Coreen Avenue Vets team since joining in 2001. She has completed her Certificate IV in Vet Nursing and has also completed her Veterinary Nursing Technician’s Diploma.

Louisa enjoys heading the Kitten Adoption Program by fostering and rearing orphaned kittens. Her house is overflowing with her menagerie of animals, many of which she acquired after falling in love with them after tending to them on those cold winter nights. Louisa is kept extra busy now after the arrival of her new daughter Elise.

Louisa was a finalist in the Youth category of the 2008 Penrith Local Business Awards due to the outstanding commitment she makes to not only the clinic and cat hospital, but also to the animals in her care.

Senior Veterinary Nurse

After completing all of her Veterinary Nursing certificates, Brooke initially worked at the Animal Referral Hospital where she worked in all areas of nursing including radiology, medical ophthalmology, surgical and emergency care.

Brooke joined Coreen Avenue Veterinary Clinic in 2004, and has added a great deal of experience and knowledge to our medical nursing team.

Brooke has been the driving force behind the implementation of our schools program and regularly attends local schools to present dog safety seminars.

Ambulance Driver & Veterinary Nurse

Dennis is an experienced animal handler, after working at the RSPCA for nine years before joining Coreen Avenue Veterinary Clinic in 2000. He is also an experienced Veterinary Nurse.

Dennis is our ambulance driver, regularly visiting housebound and elderly clients to ensure that their pets receive the medications they require. He also provides transport to and from the hospital when needed.

He is involved in a range of Community Projects with both Penrith City Council and RSPCA.

In his spare time he loves to train his daughters soccer team, ride mountain bikes and go skiing with his wife, Lynn. He is also kept busy with their dogs (Ruby and Kenny) and 7 Guinea Pigs that were rescued after being dumped on the clinic doorstep.

Receptionist & Veterinary Nurse

Lesley has been a veterinary nurse for over 20 years, working alongside Kellie at The Mountains Animal Hospital before taking a break to concentrate on her family.

Lesley joined the team at Coreen Avenue in 2000 as our receptionist, adding valuable knowledge, a welcoming presence and a cheerful face to the Clinic. Clients often comment on her friendly manner and genuine love of helping people.

Lesley lives locally and is kept busy with her three children and their huge mastiff, Axel, who loves to ‘help’ with the washing.

Veterinary Nurse

Claire joined the Coreen Avenue team in 2007 after completing a work experience program with us through her local High School.

She enjoys running Puppy Pre-School classes with Kylie, and completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing from the Animal Industries Resource Centre in January 2015.

Claire is a master of multi-tasking, and can be found greeting clients at reception, assisting the vets in surgery and tending to the needs of our patients – all on the same day!

She loves spending time with her 4-legged baby, Miley.

Veterinary Nurse

Shannon joined the team in 2011 straight after completing her HSC.

Like Claire, Shannon completed a work experience program before joining us on an apprenticeship. She completed her Certificate IV studies in Veterinary Nursing in January 2015 while working full-time.

Shannon has a passion for both animals and people, and can regularly be found on the reception desk, surgery and also running out Puppy Pre-School classes.

She has ambitions to gain her Animal Technician accreditation over the next few years.

Veterinary Nurse

After spending one day a week with us via a work-experience TAFE program, Lauren joined the team at the end of 2012.

Lauren has recently completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing via correspondence, and has displayed a keen interest in surgical cases. Lauren also enjoys helping nurse Louisa run the cat adoption program.

Veterinary Nurse

After working in the confines of an office, Kate found her way to Coreen Avenue Veterinary Clinic looking for a more “hands-on” job. She loves working with the animals and has completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at TAFE.

Kate has a genuine soft spot for Staffordshire Bull Terriers having bred and raised a number of litters.

Kate operates the Canine Learning Centre and is an expert at muli tasking & keeping up with her 2 active children and her new staffie Rosie.

Reception and Veterinary Nurse

Bronwyn had been working with the staff at Coreen Avenue in her previous role as a Veterinary Drug Representative prior to commencing maternity leave. In order to spend more time with her growing family, she joined our reception team on a part-time basis.

Bronwyn has bought with her over 20 years’ experience in the veterinary industry. She is a qualified Veterinary Nurse and is currently undertaking extra study in Animal Acupuncture and Rehabilitation Therapy.

She juggles her time between the Clinic, her two children, three cats and an adorable rabbit.

Veterinary Nurse

Maggie began working at Coreen Ave Veterinary Clinic in 2013. She bought with her much knowledge about animal care from her homeland of Argentina.

Maggie currently works as a medical nurse and regularly attends to the critical patients that require overnight care at the clinic.

Veterinary Nurse

Chloe is the newest member of the Coreen Avenue Veterinary Clinic nursing team, joining us in December 2014.

Chloe has a genuine love of all animals and can regularly be found chatting with the 4-legged patients and cuddling the orphaned kittens.

Chloe has recently completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.

Veterinary Nurse - Trainee

After completing her HSC, Tiarna joined the team at Coreen Ave in 2015.

Tiarna is currently completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing via correspondence, and is kept busy rearing kittens in the kitten adoption program.

Veterinary Nurse - Trainee

Rebecca joined the Coreen Ave team in 2015 after the completion of her HSC.

Rebecca is currently completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing via correspondence, and also enjoys looking after the orphaned kittens needing that extra TLC.


Sue is a qualified accountant, and began working at CAVC part-time to manage the office and accounts after the arrival of her two beautiful children.

Sue provides direction and guidance with financial administration; her knowledge and skills are an invaluable part of the practice.
